Artists are Communicators

A 4x6 feet mixed media painting done by me, ~Theshortyetevildork and *whoodles2003 on November 29, 2010.

So this was an art project and each of the groups in the class got a theme. Ours was (as the title clearly suggests) Artists are Communicators. So we were supposed to make a concept piece from that, and this is what we came up with.

Our thesis was:
Artists draw inspiration from what they see in the world around them, and they communicate it through art in their own perception.

So the glasses in the painting represent the artist's perception of the things he/she sees in the world. The words symbolize all kinds of emotions the artist tries to elicit from the audience viewing their art piece by inserting their own views on the universe. The newspaper clippings obviously show all the different points of view people have on the world in different or similar subject matters and how they communicate it to others. If you look closely, you will notice that the newspapers have famous paintings and illuminated manuscripts in the photo space. These represent the art in relation to the way the artist hopes to communicate with his/her audience. And lastly, the iridescent plastic sheet represents the varying points of view people have on the same subjects.

Tools: newspaper clippings (applied to canvas with gel medium), acrylic paint, printed-out famous paintings and illuminated manuscripts (also applied to canvas with medium gel), iridescent plastic.

Time: Approx. 10 hours. (Full studio day = 8 hours + after school hours).
